“HONOR, HEAL, REMEMBER” Memorial Day Events at The Highground

Major General Donald P. Dunbar Wisconsin’s Adjutant General

There will be many ways to honor those who have lost their lives in service to our country on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28th, at The Highground Veterans Memorial Park.

Beginning at 11:30am, the names of all Wisconsin KIA/MIAs during the Korean War, Vietnam War and through present day Iraq, Afghanistan and other regions will be read. Volunteers are needed to help read these names. (Volunteers are also needed for many other items throughout the day, call The Highground if you would like to volunteer.)

At 2:00pm, the Memorial Day Honor Ride Motorcycle Rally will ride into The Highground. There are motorcycle routes starting in the morning from Reedsburg, Merrill, Waupaca, Minneapolis, Neillsville, Medford, Appleton, Eau Claire & Tomah. These routes will be gathering together at The American Legion in Neillsville and will parade through Neillsville before arriving as one group at The Highground. Over 250 bikers are anticipated to be in this year’s Ride. Please come to The Highground to welcome the riders! Brew Pub Pizza will be serving food for the Honor Ride riders.  They will also have pizza available for purchase at The Highground for the general public beginning at Noon.

The Highground Memorial Day Ceremony will begin at 3:00pm.  The Loyal American Legion #175 will lead the program. The guest speakers will be Maj. General Donald P. Dunbar, Wisconsin’s Adjutant General, and Joel Brockman, father of Sgt. Andrew Wallace, who was killed in action in Iraq in 2005.  At the close of the program, “Taps” will be performed by Judy Zettler

Weather permitting, the Big Maps of the Vietnam War & the Persian Gulf (Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Afghanistan) will be out for veterans and Gold Star families to sign.
