This last Monday Night, April 30th 2018, Jon Weiler, Executive Director of The Highground Veterans Memorial Park announced the kickoff of a Yellow Ribbon Campaign commemorating the 30th Anniversary of The Highground. On September 22nd The Highground will be holding a special 30th Anniversary event. The Yellow Ribbons will be hung up across Clark County and Central Wisconsin to honor Veterans and their service. Events are planned throughout the weekend in conjunction with the Clark County Economic Development Corporation and Tourism Bureau, The Neillsville Chamber of Commerce, and other local organizations and businesses throughout the region. “We are hopeful that every community within Clark County and Central Wisconsin will have these yellow ribbons on every pole, tree, and door to honor their veterans.”

Some of the events that are already planned is a parade in Neillsville that will go to The Highground, speakers throughout the day, invited is Former Governor Tommy Thompson, who was on hand for the initial dedication, and musicians that were on hand for the initial dedication.

Sheila Nyberg of the Clark County Economic Development Corporation and Tourism Bureau said, “Most of us don’t recognize that The Highground has been here for 30 years already, and It is also the the 50th Anniversary of the middle of the Vietnam War, this will be The Welcome Home that many of our Veterans did not get.” The Clark County Economic Development Corporation and Tourism Bureau has over 400 rolls of yellow ribbon in their office. They will be put up in every community, with every town being covered in yellow ribbon by September 21st, and will stay up until Veterans Day November 11th 2018.

The Clark County Economic Development Corporation and Tourism Bureau will be looking for teams to make the ribbons for the communities as it is expected that each town will need between 200-400 ribbons. About 200 Yellow Ribbons were handed out by Loyal Legion Members were handed out to members of the local community to start the kickoff.
