The Highground Veterans Memorial Park will again be a host site for the Clark County “Spring Into the Arts” Tour April 23-24, 2022.
Several military Veteran artists/craftspeople will be displaying their works at The Highground Museum. They include jewelry and art by Ashley Spangberg of Patriot Beads & Brass (patriotbeadsandbrass.com); Merle Retzlaff, who creates unique birdhouses; Bill Scheve, a Pittsville Veteran who owns a banner business honoring Veterans (foreverveterans.us); Dave Lyons, also from Pittsville, who will display his pottery; military poetry volumes by Steve Maddox; and art prints by Tom Miller, founder of The Highground.
The Highground is home to several extraordinary outdoor sculptures and tributes, including the National Native American Vietnam Veterans Tribute – “The Forgotten Warrior”. Visitors are also welcome to take self-guided walking tours of The Highground at any time.
The Highground recognizes that creating artworks of many forms—painting, writing, music, and more— can be a key activity to alleviate depression and provide fulfillment in life; and can be a positive tool in the prevention of suicide, Veteran and civilian. As part of The Highground’s mission of Healing, there will be sample art supplies and instructions available at no charge for Veterans and families who are working their way through PTSD and other mental health issues. These items will also be available for all guests for a small donation. There is no wrong way to be an artist and the road to healing could start with this one small step.
The Highground invites everyone to make The Highground a stop as part of their “Spring into the Arts” weekend. If you are a Veteran artist/crafter and would like to participate, please email Theresa at museum@thehighground.us or call 715-743-4224. The Highground is located at W7031 Ridge Rd, Neillsville WI 54456.
