The Highground Receives the Gift of Taps

The Highground states that “They will not go in silence” when honoring our KIAs during events and ceremonies. At times, the organization is challenged to find a bugler who can be available during roll call of these brave men and women. When devoted volunteer Skip Klabon heard The Highground had to resort to a cell phone recording of “Taps” during a ceremony, he took it upon himself to find an electronic bugle.

After doing some research, Skip discovered he could only obtain one through funeral homes. So he took it upon himself to do just that—order one online.

When Kevin Hanson, owner and director of the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford, WI, learned about Skip’s search, he offered to order, pay for and donate the bugle to The Highground. Now that there is a bugle onsite, their promise to not let our men and women go in silence can be fulfilled. The Highground extends their gratitude to Kevin for his generosity and to Skip for his persistence. The Highground will no longer be silent when “Taps” is needed.
