The Highground is set to host a special presentation by Vietnam Veteran Nurse, Therapist and Author Sarah Blum on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 5:30pm. The presentation is open to the general public with RSVPs appreciated. The evening will focus on the experiences of nurses, medics and corpsman during the Vietnam War. Veterans and those who have served in the military or civilian life in a medical capacity are encouraged to attend.

Sarah Blum, ARNP, is a decorated nurse Vietnam Veteran who earned the Army Commendation Medal serving as an operating room nurse during the Vietnam War. Sarah will share her experience in Vietnam, her path to healing post-traumatic stress and her decades of experience in healing others.

Sarah served in the Army Nurse Corps for almost five years with one full tour as an operating room nurse at the 12th Evacuation Hospital in Cu Chi, Vietnam. As Sarah describes, “The hospital was located on the edge of the iron triangle by the Hobo Woods where all the fighting was in 1967, the year I was there. Our hospital was the largest user of fresh blood in all of Vietnam that year. I saw the worst of what war does to our young men and I felt the impact of the war on me emotionally for years. I call it the gift that goes on giving because at my current age, I can still go back there and feel the depth of feelings.”

The presentation will be held outdoors under a tent to enjoy the beauty of The Highground in the late afternoon. Light refreshments will be served. RSVP’s are appreciated and can be given to Theresa by calling 715-743-4224 or via email at museum@thehighground.us.

The Highground is located at W7031 Ridge Rd, Neillsville WI 54456.
