Andrew L Bossert

Andrew Bossert wanted to build a house for his wife and planned to use his Army benefits to pay for college and study architecture. Bossert, 24, of Fountain City, Wis., was killed March 7 when a car exploded at a checkpoint in Iraq. He was based out of Camp Howze, Korea. His mother, Diane, said her motorcycle-loving son spent one semester at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, but could not get the classes required for architecture. So, he stored his bike at his parents home and joined the Army for the future college benefits. Known as Andy, Bossert met his wife, Olya, during his posting in Korea and the couple married in 2002. He was sent to Iraq last year, where he was part of a unit that searched for bombs and other explosives. The job was dangerous, but it suited Bossert because he was a night owl, said his mother. Searches were often done at night, when it was less dangerous to be out, she said.

U.S. Army Sgt. Andrew L. “Andy” Bossert, age 24, of Fountain City, formerly of Cassville, died on Monday, March 7, 2005, from injuries sustained while serving his country in Iraq. Andrew was born on Oct. 1, 1980, in Lancaster, the son of Steven K. and Diane V. (Belcher) Bossert. Andy attended Cochrane-Fountain City Schools, graduating from C-FC High School with the class of 1999. Following graduation from high school, he spent one semester at UW-Stout before enlisting in the United States Army in February 2000. He was stationed in Korea for 2 1/2 years before being deployed to Iraq. While he was stationed in Korea, Andy met his wife, Olya. They were united in marriage on Dec. 9, 2002. Andy loved to ride motorcycles and hang out with his friends. He will be remembered by many for his outgoing personality, his sense of humor, his warm smile and for often putting the needs of others in front of his own. He will be truly and sadly missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Andy is survived by his wife, Olya; parents, Steven and Diane Bossert, all of rural Fountain City; his brother, Timothy K. (Danica) Bossert of Cochrane; his sister, Amy L. Bossert of Waukesha; his paternal grandfather, Louis K. Bossert of Cassville; a niece, Rainee Radowitz; two nephews, Riley Kent and Reese Allen Bossert; several aunts; uncles; cousins; and dear friends.
