Veterans are invited to sign up for The Highground’s Winter Retreat happening on Sat., Feb. 5. The casual gathering will include ice fishing at Mead Lake; snowshoeing through The Highground trails; a post-traumatic stress management workshop by The Heartbeat Center for Writing, Literacy and the Arts; and a Veteran-guided tour of The Highground. All activities are free for the Veterans and ice fishing equipment and snowshoes will be provided. The Veterans are responsible for getting their own valid WI fishing license and having it with them while fishing. WI fishing licenses are available to Veterans at a reduced rate at dnr.wisconsin.gov.
This retreat is open to all Veterans—male or female. Veterans will be treated to great food throughout the day and along the trails and there will be a bonfire to wrap up the evening. This is a great opportunity for Veterans to spend a day in the outdoors in the company of fellow Veterans, make new friendships and enjoy all The Highground has to offer.
Registration for the Winter Retreat is required by January 31, 2022 due to activity and workshop materials that need to be on hand. For Veterans who have a long distance to travel, limited space is available Friday and/or Saturday night at the nearby Moraine Motel. Reservations are required for a motel room with a $20 fee to hold the room which will be returned upon timely arrival at the retreat. Veterans can contact Theresa at The Highground to request a room. To register for the retreat, or for more information, Veterans can contact Theresa at museum@thehighground.us or call 715-743-4224.
The Highground is located at W7031 Ridge Rd., Neillsville, WI 54456.
