Volunteers are critical to the smooth operation of The Highground as well as the numerous educational events and fundraisers we host throughout the year. We understand how important our volunteer staff is to our success and greatly appreciate their generosity. People from all backgrounds and age groups volunteer with our organization. Sometimes friendships that can last a lifetime are formed. There are so many ways to get involved, from greeting visitors, parking cars or helping with event food preparation, to taking care of the gardens or volunteering for a committee or our board. We are very fortunate to have such wonderful people to fill these roles. We couldn’t do what we do without them! If you would like to help, complete the form on the “Sign up to Volunteer” tab to get started and one of our volunteer coordinators will get in touch with you!
WE HAVE SOME IMMEDIATE NEEDS!
Help The Highground bloom this summer: We are looking for a volunteer (or a group/family) who can immediately start watering the pots of flowers and new plantings once a week through the fall. Watering will take about 2 hours and volunteers will have the use of a golf cart with an attached water tank trailer. This could be a great family activity or group project for the summer. It would also be a wonderful way to show kids the benefits of volunteering and seeing the flowers fill the pots as the summer progresses!
Become a tour guide: We are looking for more individuals to help with tours of The Highground which are offered throughout the year. It takes approximately 2 hours to complete a tour—1.5 hours for the tour and an additional 30 minutes for guests to enjoy the Gift Shop and/or Museum more on their own. Tour Guides are given a script as a base to start and then are welcome to add to it as they learn more about The Highground. Training will also involve tagging along with a seasoned guide a few times. Guides can be Veterans and non-veterans. Golf carts/power scooters will be available, so don’t let mobility issues keep you from becoming a guide!
