Korean Veterans Memorial
Visitors at The Highground Veterans Memorial Park will no longer ask the question, “Where is the tribute to Veterans of Korea?” The tribute was dedicated on July 28, 2007.
·A committee of 22 Korean War veterans took the lead in planning, raising funds and accomplishing the goal of creating a Korean War Veterans tribute at The Highground. ·Michael Martino, an artist from La Crosse, had the winning design for the tribute.
·3 bronze figures depict Heat, Cold and Anguish. The figures are set upon granite slabs that form the shape like the peninsula of Korea. The base of land and water is shaped in a Yin-Yan symbol which is on the South Korean flag. Water surrounds the figures, emphasizing the distance the military personnel are from home.
·Replicas of rice paddies to the side of the main tribute hold Korean Honor Stones. A brief history of the Korean War is engraved on black granite plaques with an open wall area ready to record the next chapter in this unresolved conflict.
