The Highground to Hold Next Family PTS Support Group Meeting on June 26

The Highground will host another Family PTS Support Group Meeting on Sunday, June 26 at 2pm. Families, Veterans and the public are invited to attend the gathering to obtain resources and information about the prevention of Veteran suicide and de-stigmatizing post-traumatic stress (PTS).

Guest speakers will be: Carole Ewald, Community and Engagement Partnerships Coordinator for the Office of Integrated Mental Health in Tomah VAMC and Michael Orban, Vietnam Veteran, author and founder/co-host of ‘Stigma Free Vet Zone’ The Podcast (orbanfoundationforveterans.org). Carole and Michael will be speaking at 2pm and available afterward for questions and one-on-one conversation. Veterans and their families and friends are encouraged to attend to learn more about de-stigmatizing PTS so management and healing can begin for the Veteran and their loved ones.

This is not a professional counseling event. It is a gathering for those who are interested in learning more about suicide prevention, specific resources pertaining to Veteran suicide prevention and PTS resources that are available for families. This is also a unique opportunity to make connections with others who are, or have been, “in your shoes”; and a place to connect with a peer-support system that can help during times when a person may feel alone in their loved one’s struggle with PTS.

One of the biggest hurdles for an individual or family managing PTS and fearing the realities of Veteran suicide can be the feeling of being alone. This support group is designed to help bring a community together around those who are struggling.

RSVP’s are appreciated (to plan for sufficient resource materials and food) but not mandatory. Please send an email to at museum@thehighground.us or call 715-743-4224 to RSVP or for more information.

The Highground is located at W7031 Ridge Rd, Neillsville WI 54456.
