Winter Bowl Plan B Bowls a SPARE for The Highground Veterans Retreats

Starting the year off with pins dropping, the 8th Annual Winter Bowl, known as Plan B, raised just over $3,000 to help support this year’s Men’s and Women’s Veteran Retreats. Aiding the community’s efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the event was held at The Highground Museum over an 18-day period. This allowed individuals and small groups to browse the wide variety of raffle items available and bowl on our mock lane.

Bringing more awareness to the increased need for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) services, the mock bowling lane featured pins adorned with PTSD symptoms and problems and the bowling ball represented the various resolutions. Veterans suffering from their own issues were encouraged to write their own burdens on the pins. All bowlers used the ball of PTSD resolutions to STRIKE down the pins of PTSD.

The 2021 Men’s Veterans Weekend Retreat will be held July 9-11 and the Women’s Veterans Retreat will be held September 10-12th. With the increased need for PTSD services, the retreats offer activities and resources that allow participants to move forward with added peace, enjoyment and new friendships. Veterans who have attended these retreats have told us, “The first time I have slept without nightmares in 10 years”; “The retreat has made me realize that I need to enroll in a residential PTSD program”; “It is so ‘freeing’ to be able to talk to other Veterans going through the same thing”.
