The Highground to Hold Male Veterans Retreat August 11-13

The Highground will hold a Male Veterans Retreat August 11–13, 2023. The retreat will offer Veterans the opportunity to have fun, enjoy great food and experience interesting activities in the company of fellow male Veterans. The retreat is open to any male Veteran of any age and service history.

The retreat will include activities at The Highground as well as local sites and most activities will be accessible for a wide range of physical abilities; however, a field trip to the Silver Mound archaeological site on Sunday, August 13 will require actual hiking to the site through a hilly and wooded area

Other planned activities include: post-traumatic stress management workshops; a presentation on “Mountain Man Rendezvous” encampments, including how to get started with and enjoy this fascinating, fun hobby; taking part as an Honor Guard for a Veteran’s Legacy Stone placement on The Highground plaza; and more while in the company and camaraderie of fellow Veterans.

Registration for the retreat is required. Veterans are invited to stay for the entire weekend or arrangements can be made for attendees who would like to stay for part of the weekend. The day(s) to be attended will need to be noted upon registration. To register for the retreat and get a detailed itinerary, Veterans are encouraged to contact Theresa as soon as they can by email to museum@thehighground.us or by calling 715-743-4224.

Lodging for the retreat will be at the Moraine Motel which is adjacent to The Highground. Lodging will be booked for Veterans when they register. Veterans should not call the Moraine Motel on their own. It is important to note that The Highground is not able to help fund or plan the Veteran’s transportation to the retreat or back home. This is the responsibility of the Veteran.

The Veterans Weekend Retreat, including lodging and meals, is free for the Veterans thanks to these generous sponsors: Alliance Bank; Gauger Ventures LLC; American Legion Post #354; The National Society of the Dames of the Court of Honor, Maureen Hornung, Carol Shea, Marshfield Professional Police Association; American Legion Phaneuf-Vanasse #111; Citizens State Bank of Loyal; Milwaukee Brewers; Cathy Lawrence–Scentsy; Festival Foods; Wisconsin Timber Rattlers; Central WI Broadcasting; WWIS; SCOPE Dept of Corrections; Marshfield Acupuncture & Precision Armament LLC; Green Bay Packers; The Heartbeat Center for Writing, Literacy and the Arts; Skip and Debbie Klabon; Bonnie Henchen; and the Moraine Motel.
