The Highground is pleased to announce it has begun working on plans to expand its legacy for 2024 and beyond. Now that the midway point of this year’s stone ceremonies has arrived, visitors may notice some new landscaping on the plaza. By the end of 2023, The Highground will reach the end of the plaza walkway where most of the 6,200 stones live. To prepare for the future, The Highground staff and board of directors along with emeritus and founding members selected two squares on the plaza where Legacy Stones will be placed beginning in 2024. This decision demanded many hours of consideration in order to design a solution that would maintain greenspace yet allow the organization to execute with dignity a place for these honor stones.
The Highground’s need to expand into the plaza was inevitable. The jump-start on the project was inspired by a request from the Wisconsin Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association® Wisconsin State Board, a chapter in the Nation’s largest Veteran motorcycle club. The Wisconsin CVMA® State Board has officially made The Highground’s Ride to Remember® their annual sanctioned ride, bringing an additional 75 to 100 participants to the event. After many years of dutifully participating, a proposal was introduced to make The Highground the official location of their annual tributes to fallen riders. The Highground is honored to have been selected by the CVMA® for this privilege. Later this month, an inaugural six Legacy Stones will be placed beneath the CVMA® header in a square on the west side of the plaza. Legacy Stones will be place in the square on the east side of the plaza, maintaining symmetry within this requisite new section.
