Tours at The Highground

A Note on Our Guided Tour Schedule: As the seasons change and the chill sets in, our guided tours will enter an annual hibernation period. From November through April, and any time the temperature dips below 40°F, we are prioritizing the warmth and safety of our visitors and staff. While our guided tours take a break, we invite you to explore the beauty of the off-season through self-guided walks (weather permitting).

Self-Guided Tours

Self-guided tours can be taken at any time. Strolling the grounds at your own pace to learn about each tribute is a great way to experience the park. Tour maps are available at the Gift Shop during regular business hours. For an enhanced version, pull out your cell phone, and listen to the audio guide for each area by going to tributes and clicking on the audio tour information.

Small Group Tours

Small group tours are available during regular business hours or by appointment outside of business hours. We do ask that you reserve two weeks in advance as a common courtesy to our volunteers; however, we will do our best to never turn anyone away! These tours provide a more detailed look at each tribute and is a perfect way for a Veteran and their family to learn more from their loved ones. In the past, tours have evoked emotional stories that a Veteran was willing to share with their loved one(s) as the calming experience allowed them to open up for the first time.

Large Group Tours

Have a larger group? That’s no problem. The Highground has hosted groups of over 500 people. Buses are always welcome. Please keep in mind that The Highground requires at least two weeks’ notice and may not be able to support a large group if it lands on a day that we have a Veterans event or a fundraiser scheduled. Please call us to confirm availability so we can work with you to provide an extraordinary experience for your entire group.

School Tours

School tours are a great way to bring the classroom outdoors! Experience the tributes with a history syllabus or move into more of the sciences as you explore the four miles of trails within our park. With new amenities within the park, we have expanded our capabilities even further. If you took a school trip here in the past, we encourage you to reach out again to see what else is available.

Facilities that can be utilized for your small or large group tour

There are plenty of amenities to help support your visit. There are several pavilions on site and all pavilions have charcoal grilling stations. Some pavilions have additional electrical outlets. There is also a kitchen facility for food prep if needed and plenty of space in one of our many group areas. In 2024, The Highground added full audio and visual capabilities to the park that are sure to enhance any gathering. Contact us to find out what services we can provide.
