The Highground is celebrating creativity and community this spring with a unique art workshop and its annual participation in the Clark County Spring into the Arts Tour. Since 2017, creative arts—including painting, music, writing and more—have played a vital role in The Highground’s healing programs, supporting mental wellbeing and offering veterans meaningful avenues for expression.
In anticipation of Spring into the Arts, The Highground is inviting the public to join a special art workshop at its Welcome Center on April 22. Participants 12 and older will receive guided instruction and all materials needed to craft a whimsical beaded suncatcher. The workshop is free through The Highground’s 2026 Community and Military Outreach (CAMO) program; however, registration is required. To reserve your spot, call Bonnie at 715-743-4224 or email donations@thehighground.org.

Those who wish may also have their finished suncatchers displayed at The Highground during the Spring into the Arts event, adding a touch of handmade magic to the celebration of the arts.
During the art tour April 24-25, The Highground will once again showcase the talents of military veteran artists. Featured creators include woodworker Mark Harrell of the Woodland Workshop in Marshfield (Mark’s works can be viewed on his Facebook page at: TheWoodlandWorkshop23), Michael and Anna Swearingen of Swearingen Candle (swearingencandle.com), and David Pietenpol with his hand-turned wood bowls. Sue Nelson, a longtime volunteer at The Highground, will also be displaying her patriotic fabric creations.
Lunch will be available for purchase on April 24-25 from 11am-1pm. “Bring your walking shoes, coats and cameras to make the most of your visit during Spring into the Arts,” says The Highground Museum Coordinator Theresa Hebert. “It is a great opportunity to support our talented artists, grab some lunch and then head out to tour the beautiful tributes throughout the park.”
